I am a post-doctoral researcher at Sigmedia Lab. My doctoral thesis, Automated Video Encoder Parameterisation from Streaming to Cinema (TCD, 2025), built the technical foundations for this proposal. The core technology, LiteVPNet, was peer-reviewed and published at IEEE PCS 2025 and presented to the international codec community at the AOMedia Research Workshop and Symposium in 2025. We have disclosed this to Trinity Research and Innovation. I am a contributor to Trinity's work in the Horizon Europe EMERALD project (Grant Agreement 101119800), which addresses sustainable media production and through which TCD joined the Alliance for Open Media.
As Vice-President of VideoLAN (creators of VLC), I work alongside Google, Meta, Netflix, Vimeo, and Apple on the open-source multimedia infrastructure underpinning the video industry. I co-organise VideoLAN Developer Days, the annual gathering of the international codec engineering community, and co-chair two AV2 standardisation activities for the next-generation Alliance for Open Media codec: extended chroma format support and 12-bit depth, both of which directly enable higher picture fidelity for cinematic and post-production workflows. I have actively contributed to open-source AV1 codec development since 2020 (rav1e, dav1d, SVT-AV1).
