AI-Sprayer is an 18-month project that will develop A chemical-free precision weeder, fertigation and irrigation platform for organic farmers. It builds on two year of fundamental research at Maynooth University to investigate the efficacy of hot water as a weed killer. This internally funded project ends in February 2026. In that project (Hot Weeds) Computer Vision and AI detect weeds and deliver species-specific dosages to achieve the desired kill. This project targets the Sustainable & Environmental Management aspect of the ARC HUB as it is research to support the reduction by 50% of pesticides and reduce the use of fossil fuels in agriculture, as well as to facilitate a Digital Transformation of agriculture through regular field plant measurements.
