MIMOPilot designed and implemented a novel joint channel estimation and equalization technique that dramatically reduces signalling overhead in massive MIMO systems. MIMIOPilot exploits coherence bandwidth and time to minimise pilot overhead, thereby improving spectral efficiency.
MIMOPILOT uses a single pilot sample to simultaneously estimate transmitted data and update channel estimates sequentially, leveraging statistical system properties and multi-antenna diversity gains.MIMOPILOT extends the technique to time-varying systems, addressing key challenges in 6G wireless networks, particularly at higher frequencies such as millimeter-wave and Terahertz bands. This avoids excessive channel tracking and pilot requirements and it integrates seamlessly with existing 5G standards such as OFDM and massive MIMO, supporting both uplink and downlink transmissions.
The key objectives for MIMOPilot are:
1.Launched a low-complexity, low-overhead joint channel estimation and equalisation technique for multiuser massive MIMO systems.
2. Developed novel downlink transmission techniques using updated uplink channel estimates to maintain reliable connections despite channel aging.
3. Designed a new time and frequency synchronisation method.
Expected Impact
1.Improved Spectral Efficiency: Reduces pilot overhead and enhances massive MIMO system performance.
2.Enabling 6G Networks: Supports reliable communication in high-frequency, time-varying channels.
3.Commercial Potential: Lays the groundwork for industrial adoption.
