TEMPEST enhances the security and reliability of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) communications in high-priority missions by mitigating potential electronic signaling threats. UAVs are vulnerable to malicious jamming attacks that can disrupt their wireless links, compromising mission performance and safety.

TEMPEST developed a software suite that integrates machine learning, signal processing, and trajectory optimisation to detect, locate, and avoid jamming sources in real-time. The system fuses radio spectrum measurements, RF fingerprinting, and environmental topology to allow UAVs to adapt their flight paths dynamically while maintaining mission objectives.

The key objectives for Tempest are:

1.Detecting and classifying jamming signals
2.Locating jamming sources and estimating the position of jammers accurately.
3.Optimising UAV flight paths and generating radio maps of jamming zones.

Expected Impact

1.Societal Impact-Enhanced Security: Enhances the safety and reliability of UAVs in search and rescue, disaster response, and emergency communication networks.

2.Advanced Autonomy: Advances UAV autonomy and cybersecurity.

3. Commercial Impact: Provides UAV operators and manufacturers witha secure, jam-resistant UAV operations software.
