Dr. Rajkumar Sarma (Lead Translational Researcher) is a specialist in Machine Learning (ML)-driven semiconductor design with 14 years of international experience across the hardware lifecycle. To ensure 100% dedication to the 24-month duration of the ALERT project, Dr. Sarma will lead the technical execution as a Senior Research Fellow (Postdoctoral).
A defining achievement of his career was his leadership in the Research Ireland-funded Automatic Design of Digital Circuits (ADDC) project. Under the guidance of Prof. Ryan, Dr. Sarma directed the strategy that resulted in the design and tape-out of the world’s first completely ML-generated Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC)[1], fabricated in 65nm technology by TSMC. He was personally responsible for the circuit generation engine, successfully integrating ML automation with industry-grade EDA toolchains. His expertise extends into Analogue circuit design, where he pioneered the use of Grammatical Evolution (GE)[2] for front- and back-end automation. His translational track record is further evidenced by his role as Co-PI/Collaborator on the AutoCircuit Enterprise Ireland commercialisation project. His commitment to high-value IP is evidenced by a granted Indian patent and a pending European Patent for automated circuit generation.
